Key takeaways

  • To buy electronics on Vinted safely, pay only through the Buy now button, ask private sellers in the chat for the serial number or IMEI and battery health, and test the device on delivery before confirming the order.
  • Sellers labelled Vinted Pro are businesses, so as a consumer you generally have more statutory rights than when you buy from a private individual.
  • tested before sells on Vinted too, and its listings already have the facts: every device is tested, reset with accounts removed and shown with real photos and an honest condition grade.

If you want to buy electronics on Vinted, pay only via the Buy now button: according to Vinted, its protection only applies to purchases paid that way. Before buying from a private seller, check the reviews and photos and ask in the chat for the serial number, IMEI and battery health. Test the device as soon as it is delivered and report any problem in the app before confirming the order.

At tested before, that's already checked: we test every device before selling it, reset it and sell it on eBay and Vinted, with real photos and an honest condition grade.

How does Vinted's protection work?

According to Vinted, the seller generally only gets paid once the order is complete. Under Vinted's current terms, you are generally entitled to a refund if an item doesn't arrive, arrives damaged or is significantly not as described; you see the fee for this before you pay. However, this protection is not a warranty and does not replace your statutory rights, and it only helps if you report a problem in time and can back it up. So never confirm the order too early.

How do you check the listing and the seller?

Read the reviews on the seller's profile: detailed reviews from other members say more than automatic entries. If an account has so far only sold clothes and suddenly lists several new smartphones, be careful.

With private sellers, ask for proof in Vinted's chat, because whatever the seller confirms there counts as evidence later on:

What to ask forWhat it's forWhat to look out for
Photo of the About page in the settingsConfirms model, storage and serial numberDetails match the title and photos
IMEI for smartphonesComparison after deliveryMatches what *#06# shows on arrival
Photo of battery healthAssess the batteryFigure plausible for the device's age
Photo with a note showing your usernameProof the seller has the deviceCurrent photo, not a catalogue image

Our guide to checking battery health on iPhone and Android explains where to find the figure.

What changes with Vinted Pro?

Business sellers are labelled as Pro on Vinted. With private sellers, statutory rights for faulty goods are much more limited, and there is normally no right to cancel. With Pro sellers, as a consumer you generally have the statutory rights that apply when buying from a business, such as a right to cancel an online purchase, usually within 14 days (general information, not legal advice).

Which scams are common with electronics?

Most scams try to lure you out of the app or rush you into confirming too early:

  • Fake payment pages: a link leads to a page that looks like Vinted and asks for your card details.
  • A transfer “without fees”: the seller offers a discount if you pay them directly.
  • Empty box or wrong item: instead of the smartphone, you get just the box, a dummy or an older model.
  • Pressure to confirm: you are asked to mark the order as OK before you've tested the device.

If one of these patterns fits, don't buy, and report the listing in the app.

What should you check when the parcel arrives?

The window for reporting a problem is short and generally starts on delivery; Vinted states the exact period in the app. So collect parcels promptly and check straight away:

  1. Film the opening of the parcel in one take, including the shipping label.
  2. Compare the device, condition and accessories with the photos and description.
  3. Check the serial number or IMEI against the details from the chat.
  4. Set the device up with your own account and test the battery, screen, cameras, buttons and connections.

If something is wrong, report it through the order in the app before the period runs out, with photos and videos. For every check on phones, see our used smartphone checklist.

Buying used electronics from tested before

With us, you don't need to ask for proof: we test every device before we sell it and reset it with all accounts removed. The condition grade, real photos, price, shipping and returns are in the listing, and you buy on eBay or Vinted with the platform's protection under its terms. Our quality page explains how we test; if you need help after your purchase, you can reach us on WhatsApp or through eBay and Vinted messages.

You'll find the current devices on our buy page.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to buy electronics on Vinted?
It can be, if you pay through Vinted's Buy now button, check the listing and the seller, and test the device as soon as it arrives. Vinted's protection then applies under its current terms.
How long do I have to report a problem on Vinted?
The window is short and generally starts when the parcel is delivered. Vinted states the exact period in its current terms and in the app, so test the device straight after delivery and only then confirm that everything is OK.
What is Vinted Pro?
Vinted Pro is Vinted's service for business sellers. Pro sellers are labelled as such, and as a consumer you generally have the statutory rights that apply when buying from a business, such as the right to cancel an online purchase.
